Total Commander does not run on macOS. If you miss its way of working — two panels, the function keys, the keyboard doing everything — FileMaster4M brings that workflow to the Mac as a native app from the Mac App Store.
What will feel familiar
F3 view, F4 edit, F5 copy, F6 move, F7 new folder, F8 delete, F9 rename, Tab to switch panels.
Select with Space or Insert, by mask (+*.jpg), invert with *, swap panels with Ctrl+U.
Archives open like folders: ZIP, TAR, tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz, 7z, RAR and ISO 9660. Copy out only what you need.
FTP and SFTP in the second panel, with passwords in the macOS Keychain and SSH keys for SFTP.
A hex editor, quick viewer, file inspector with checksums and a configurable button bar.
What is different on the Mac
It is a sandboxed App Store app: it asks once for access to protected folders and remembers it. No Full Disk Access.
No plugin system (WCX/WFX/WLX plugins are Windows DLLs and cannot run on macOS).
RAR and ISO are read-only; archives are created as ZIP, 7z, TAR, tar.gz, tar.bz2, CPIO or LHA/LZH.
Price
Free to download, with every feature for 14 days of use within 60 days of download. After that, local file management stays free; one in-app purchase unlocks FTP/SFTP, archive extraction and creation, and the hex editor permanently. No subscription.
